Already have a guest list in a spreadsheet? You can import it directly into Wedping in just a few steps. This guide walks you through how to format, export, and upload your CSV file.
Whether you're using Google Sheets, Excel, or Apple Numbers, make sure your spreadsheet has the correct column headers. Wedping will only recognize columns with these exact names:
| Column Header | Required? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| First Name | Yes | The only required field. Every guest needs a first name. |
| Last Name | No | Optional last name. |
| Phone Number | No | US numbers support most formats (e.g. 123-456-7890, (123) 456-7890, +11234567890). International numbers must include a country code. |
| No | Must be a valid email format if provided. | |
| Groups | No | Assign guests to one or more groups. Separate multiple groups with commas (e.g. Family, Bridal Party, Ace Hotel). |
Once your spreadsheet is ready, you need to save or export it as a .csv file. Here's how to do it from the most common tools:
Importing adds to your existing guest list — it will never replace or delete guests you've already added.
You can add a guest to multiple groups by separating the group names with commas in the Groups column. If you're editing your list in Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers, just type the groups separated by commas directly in the cell — the app will handle the rest when you export. If you're writing a CSV file by hand, make sure to wrap the list of groups in quotes so the commas aren't treated as column separators (e.g. "Family, Bridal Party, Table 3").
| First Name | Last Name | Groups |
|---|---|---|
| Jane | Doe | Family, Bridal Party |
| John | Smith | College Friends, Rehearsal Dinner, Table 3 |
| Emily | Brown | Family |
If a group doesn't exist yet, Wedping will create it automatically during import.
Wedping matches headers exactly. "first name" or "FirstName" will work, but something like "Name" or "FName" will not. If a header isn't recognized, the data in that column will be ignored and you'll see a warning in the import preview.
Wedping only accepts .csv files. If you have an Excel workbook (.xlsx) or Numbers file, you'll need to export it as CSV first. See Step 2 above.
Every guest needs at least a first name. Rows without one will be ignored and counted in the import summary.
Guests with phone numbers from unsupported countries will still be imported, but you'll see a note in the preview. These guests may not be reachable via text message.
US phone numbers should be 10 digits (area code + number). Formats like 123-456-7890, (123) 456-7890, and +11234567890 all work. International numbers must start with a + and country code. Numbers that can't be parsed will be skipped.
If a guest with the same phone number already exists in your event, the import will update their information rather than creating a duplicate.
Spreadsheets sometimes add empty rows at the bottom. These will be automatically filtered out since they lack a first name.
